Backlog Bingo 2025: Little Kitty Big City
Little Kitty Big City is a 2024...adventure game? from Double Dagger, and it's their debut.
I finished this in a single sitting, and it's a game about being a shitty cat, so it probably goes without saying that I at least liked this. I also finished this in a single sitting, with Steam saying that I have exactly 2.5 hours in it, so I'm not going to have a ton to say.
This draws fairly obvious parallels to Stray, in that they are both games in which you're playing A Literal Cat, but LKBC is much more concerned with being cute ("a dog scared me and I fell out of my cozy nap spot and now I need to find food to eat so I can have enough stamina to climb back up to the cozy nap spot") than with making me absolutely sob. (Well, okay, I did play Stray shortly after my cat died, and that almost certainly didn't help.) The game is largely just...cute adventure game things. Go around collecting items for people, doing little sidequests, figuring out how to steal all of the fish you need to eat to be able to make the final climb back up.
It's really short and sweet. I think this would be a 100% clear under four hours, and...there's a nuzzle button? There are TWO buttons for bapping things off shelves! There's a sidequest in which you have to replace a bird's phone because they dropped it in wet concrete, which you do by running up to someone and bapping them until they fall over and drop a phone that you can bite and carry back to the bird. It's just cute, in a way that was exactly the kind of thing that I needed right now. I'm probably not going to be left thinking about it, other than to say "aw, yeah, that game was really cute", but it's absolutely accomplishing what it's setting out to accomplish, and doing so quite well. 4/5.
